Who was the real McCoy? - North Star, Columns, Wednesday, July 4, 2007
by John Macfie
According to local legend, a group of islands known as the McCoys were owned by a furtrader and fisherman named McCoy whose spirit haunts one of the islands during the full moon in September.
Neither, for that matter, would Tim Dyer, intrepid outdoorsman and proprietor of White Squall Outfitters in Carling Township. Knowing that the McCoy island group was high on Tim’s list of places to send his paddling clients, I asked him recently what he thinks of the legend....

2006 The Lonely Planet Guide To Canada
Hey we made it in this well known international publication! Actually our listing was brought to our attention by a friend while on travels in India. White Squall is one of 5 attractions under Parry Sound heading - yahoo!!!:
"An adventurous way to explore the area's waterways is on a paddling trip with White Squall, based about 18 km northwest of Parry Sound. One of the owners has been described as the father of kayaking in Ontario, so you couldn't be in better hands. This company runs an extensive program of short trips on Georgian Bay. Longer trips have themes such yoga, geology, photography, gourmet food or astronomy. In Parry Sound itself you can get information from the company's retail store ( 19 James St). Many of White Squall's staff are as passionate about roots and folk music as they are about paddling, and you can buy some of the hard-to-find tracks listed on p180 at the store. "
And guess what the tops the list of top Ten Songs about Northern Ontario on pg. 180 but Parry Sound's very own Nineteen James Moose song! (with White Squall's Graham K. on drums) - again CD available at White Squall.
Thanks for the international exposure Lonely Planet!!! We sure do appreciate it.
